The Obama campaign goes over the $1,000,000,000 mark.

Politico is reporting:

"President Barack Obama and his allies have broken the billion-dollar barrier.
Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and their joint fundraising group Obama Victory Fund have combined to raise $1,009,000,000 since the beginning of 2011, according to a POLITICO analysis of federal campaign flings and voluntary disclosures."

But the NY Times is reporting that by election day, both campaigns will have exceeded 1 Billion a piece:

"President Obama and Mitt Romney are both on pace to raise more than $1 billion with their parties by Election Day, according to financial disclosures filed by the campaigns on Thursday.

From the beginning of 2011 through Oct. 17, Mr. Obama and the Democrats raised about $1.06 billion, and Mr. Romney and the Republicans collected $954 million, including some money for the party’s Congressional efforts, setting up 2012 to be the most expensive presidential campaign in history."

The most expensive election in history.
